VITA Tax Preparer

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax preparers provide free tax preparation assistance to low-income and elderly taxpayeres. The VITA program provides a path from financial uncertainty to financial security for the over 12,000 people we serve every year. In order to ensure our tax services remain free and accessible, we need the help of volunteers like you.

No experience is required! Attend one of our free, one-day trainings, happening November through January, to get IRS certified as a VITA tax preparer.* Our taxes are reviewed by experienced and professional site coordinators before they are filed to ensure the accuracy and quality of all returns. Using our tax filing software, volunteer tax preparers ensure that every client recieves all the credits and refunds they are due. This is money that helps provide for childcare, education, basic necessities, and it is a proven tool to fight against poverty.

There are many VITA tax sites across Cuyahoga County in need of volunteers, with at least one site being open every day of the week. Go to refundohio.org to learn more and sign up to get involved.

For questions or more information, contact us at volunteer@refundohio.org

*Self-directed courses for IRS certification are also available. Contact us for more information.
