Sunday Dog Walking Club at Friendship APL

HandsOn volunteers will assist the shelter by walking, socializing and practicing basic commands with dogs to help keep them healthy and alert. Modifications to the project may be made to accommodate volunteers with limited mobility.

The Friendship Animal Protective League houses stray and abandoned animals, picked up throughout Lorain County. The shelter works to return lost animals to their owners and to find loving homes for all adoptable animals.

Age Limits: This project is for volunteers age 10 and up. Volunteers under the age of 16 must serve alongside a parent or guardian. All volunteers under 18 must fill out and bring a youth waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Volunteers under 16 must be closely accompanied by an adult when walking a dog. Since many of the dogs are larger and strong it is best to have one adult per child under 16. 

Things to Remember: Wear clothes that can get dirty and a pair of closed toe shoes. It is recommended that shoes worn at the shelter and not worn at a volunteer's home as it may spread disease to personal pets. Volunteers will spend most of the session outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather. If you have extra plastic grocery bags without holes, feel free to bring them! We can use them!

Special Driving Instructions: Volunteers may park in the lot in front of the building. Volunteers will meet the Volunteer Leader at the front desk inside the front door of the shelter.
